We’re trying something new here with a blog to share our story with all of you. We love getting to know each one of our clients on a personal level while they spend time in our chairs. I believe it’s important to share our personal story with all of you.
Although this is a little out of my comfort zone, I want to share our journey in becoming the salon we are today.
For those who don’t already know me, my name is Shimi Angel, owner of Salon Tel-Aviv, located here in Sharon, Massachusetts. I have a big and unapologetic personality, and if you’ve sat in my salon you know that. But to share my story I need to start from the beginning, which starts in Tel- Aviv, Israel where I grew up.
Growing up, I always had a creative eye, but never knew where it was going to take me.
When I was 18 years old, I followed in the customary tradition of joining the Israeli Defense Force. As you can imagine, it was a very rigid and constraining phase of my life. Although it taught me important life values, it was not allowing me to grow to my fullest creative potential.
After completing my time in the defense force, I decided to pursue a career in a creative field- so I enrolled in interior design school in Israel.
It was a refreshing change of life, but I knew I needed to take some time for myself. I wanted to travel and see the world.
So I did just that, I traveled all over the world and experienced it’s cultures.
It all started in a summer camp in the United States, where I worked as an arts and crafts counselor. This was my first taste of living away from home and earning money with my skills.
It was the first experience that gave me confidence in my creativity. It opened the door for me and gave me the confidence to travel and trust that I can depend on my skills.
I proceeded in my travels, spending time in Hawaii, Miami, South Dakota, Colorado, New York, and across the world in Mauritius, India…. the list goes on.
All of this time and experience around the world has made me into the artist, stylist, and person that I am today. I’ve experienced hair all over the world. Really, I mean that.
When I was in India, I gave a man a haircut on the side of the street. And that’s just one example.
I’ve taken something with me from all of these experiences as a person and as a stylist. If you know me, you know that I’ll always give you my honest opinion. I know I can be blunt, but it’s always with your best intentions in mind. My creative eye has been trained through all of these experiences and I’m always excited to share this with each and every one of my clients.
I’m passionate about hair. I love creating a vision and always have fun bringing your hair to life.
But our salon is more than just hair- it’s an experience. I care about your experience in our salon, which is why I carefully choose the music, the atmosphere, the lighting, our organic product line…which we’ll discuss in our next blog… and all of the other little details. I want our clients to enjoy their time here, have fun with our stylists, and leave feeling rejuvenated.
I’m so excited to start this next chapter for the salon and I’m grateful to have all of you here for the ride.
Okay my lovely people, that’s it for today. As always, don’t drink and drive, and smoke inside!
xx,
Shimi Angel
